Professional window cleaning tips!

Vision Cleaning

There is no house or building that has no windows or does not use glass and unless cleaned regularly, glass catches dust and become about as useful as a pair of dirty spectacle lenses. Even windows that are cleaned everyday can quickly develop smudges due to children touching them or leaning against them.

As professional window cleaners, we get a lot of questions from housewives on how to keep home windows clean. So here are a few home window cleaning tips.

Home window cleaning tips

Tip # 1: If you do not already possess one, buy yourself a good quality squeegee - we recommend the brass or stainless steel squeegees. It lasts longer and is well engineered for the job. The quality of rubber matters. It needs to be engineered just right - not too hard, not too soft. Squeegees can be purchased at any janitorial supply stores.

Tip # 2: You can either use a commercial window cleaning solution or make your own. An ideal window cleaning solution should contain a mild detergent and a small percentage of ammonia. You can make your own window cleaning liquid using water, vinegar (or a mild detergent), and ammonia in the approximate ratio of 90:05:05 i.e. 90% water and the rest split between vinegar (or a mild detergent), and ammonia. If you increase the detergent quantity it could cause streaks on the window.

Detergent or Ammonia gets rid of heavy greasy soils and stains whereas vinegar removes hard water spots.

Tip # 3: The secret to really clean windows is not the cleaning solution we use (although that helps), it's the technique used. So here's the technique that will result in absolutely clean windows:

Start off with wiping dirty windows with a damp cloth.

Hold the squeegee firmly against the window and pull downwards. Lift the squeegee away and repeat the process at the adjacent spot. Don't drag the squeegee around. Remember, from top of the window pull downwards firmly and then lift the squeegee away before you start at another spot.

Instead of the vertical movement mentioned above, you may also do it horizontally.

Tip # 4: If the window had not been cleaned for many weeks, use more water on the squeegee. The extra water removes the hard dirt particles cleanly. In comparison, a drier squeegee might cause dirt particles to scratch the glass.

Tip # 5: Do not use a vacuum cleaner on your windows - we've noticed that windows that have been regularly vacuum cleaner tend to have scratch marks. These were probably caused by the hard bristles at the vacuum head.

Tip # 6: Tilt the squeegee at an angle to the glass pressing about an inch of the rubber blade against the top of the window glass. Move the squeegee horizontally or vertically but stick to any one type of motion and wipe the blade of the squeegee with a damp cloth each time.

We hope these home window cleaning tips prove useful to you. Please feel free to write in to us at mailto:info@vision-cleaning.co.uk your suggestions and experiences are most welcome.

Commercial Cleaning With a Clear Vision

Home Window Cleaning
It was a bright balmy morning when Vision cleaning decided to test UK’s first computer controlled, high rise self climbing machine that automatically cleans windows and facades at any height, without the need for human labour.

With an eye to garnering a greater share of UK’s high-rise cleaning service pie and also to take advantage of the growing number of full-glass, high rise buildings, Vision windows cleaning services based at Isle of Skye successfully tested a computer controlled, high rise self climbing machine that automatically cleans windows and facades at any height.

As the automatic cleaning machine came down to ground level, Glenn Screeton, CEO of Vision cleaning appeared pleased at the cleaning results. When this reporter asked if they intended to press the machine into service, Mr. Glenn Screeton said that for now they were merely testing the machine and a decision would be taken based on their assessment of the machine, the results of the first test and the business potential of such equipment.

The Isle of Skye based Vision cleaning currently provides domestic and commercial Contract Window Cleaning services to neighbouring areas including Lochalsh, Fort William, Aviemore, Staffin, Window cleaning services in Portree and Straun. Mr. Screeton confided in us that the computer controlled, high rise self climbing machine would fit well with the company’s commercial expansion plans. But he cautioned against reading too much into it saying that the commercial viability of the machine had to be looked into and added, “The machine certainly brings to fore some interesting business ideas”.

Mr. Screeton also talked about his domestic, Home, commercial, and Traditional Window Cleaning business being highly client-oriented, “we have some of the friendliest commercial cleaning plans including our daily, weekly, monthly or pay-as-you-go domestic and commercial cleaning plans”.

Public Relations Officer Mrs. Regina also added that Vision Domestic Window Cleaning services; lets the customer choose what they want cleaned - external, internal, office space, kitchen space, public areas and so on or all of it. Internal cleaning of commercial premises starts after the staff has left for the day. She added that their one-time pay-as-you-go
Residential Window Cleaning services can also be availed of even on Sundays and Public holidays.

A senior site supervisor added that Vision Cleaning was one of the few domestic and commercial cleaning companies with 100% safety record. “Safety is a priority” he said adding, “We can redo a dirty window but if a worker falls due to lax safety, there usually is no second chance for him”.

Despite safety being a priority, we were told that Vision Cleaning has a “can do” attitude to cleaning jobs taking on any and every domestic and commercial cleaning request no matter the location, height or difficulty.

Domestic and Commercial Cleaning New Technologies at Vision Cleaning

Professional Window Cleaning in LochalshIt seems it was a day for testing new equipment. On the day that Vision cleaning tested UK’s first computer controlled, high rise self climbing machine that automatically cleans windows and facades at any height without the need for human labour, it also tested two other machines as well – one group tested a self-propelled, wide-angle, variable pressure specialized roof cleaning machine while another tested a specialized carpet cleaning machine and worked inside the building.

Glenn Screeton, CEO of Vision cleaning explained that computer controlled, high rise self climbing machine that automatically cleans windows and facades would enable them to cover more tall glass covered buildings. The automated cleaning meant that once the machine was setup, just one staff member was required to operate it. That staff member can be on the ground and operate the machine remotely. The machine therefore reduced the cost of Contract Window Cleaning Isle Of Skye; time required and also reduced risk of accidents to almost zero.

When asked if he bought the machine, Mr Glenn said “we have to work out the economics of it – it’s quite an expensive investment”.

Meanwhile Mr. Jonathan Wash, senior site supervisor appeared quite pleased at the results of the self-propelled, wide-angle, variable pressure, specialized roof cleaning machine. “It’s doing a super job” he said.

When this reporter went into the building accompanied by Public Relations Officer Mrs. Regina, we were shown the new specialized carpet cleaning machine in operation and it was quite impressive. Mrs. Regina explained that the carpet being cleaned was obtained from a neighbouring auto workshop that had several large oil, grease, rubber and dirt stains on it. The part of the carpet that was already cleaned was slightly damp but otherwise appeared as good as new. The ‘before and after’ effect of the carpet cleaning machine was quite clear to see.

Mrs. Regina said that such specialized carpet cleaning machine could be used in the Professional Window Cleaning in Lochalsh area as well as commercial cleaning operations. Buying a specialized machine like this made sense as it meant not having to physically remove the old carpet or get down on your hands and knees to spot clean stubborn stains.
